In preparation for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, Divisional Commissioner Praveen Gedam announced that a comprehensive proposal and plan for a dedicated Simhastha Kumbh Mela cell will be submitted to the state government. The goal is to ensure the smooth execution of all activities related to the event. Gedam shared these updates during a review meeting held in the Central Hall of the District Collector's Office, attended by Nashik Municipal Commissioner Manisha Khatri, Public Works Department Superintendent Engineer Arundhati Sharma, District Surgeon Dr Charudanna Shinde and heads of various departments.
Gedam stressed the need for a specialised team of 40 personnel, including an officer of additional district collector or deputy collector rank to serve as the main planning officer. The team will also include key positions such as deputy commissioner of police, accounts officer for financial oversight, engineer-level quality control officer for development works, special media cell for public communication, additional staff for administrative tasks and others. A detailed report on these requirements will be sent to the Urban Development Department and the Chief Minister's Office for approval.
With comprehensive planning and coordination among departments, the district administration aims to ensure a seamless and well-organised Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027. Gedam reiterated the importance of timely execution and called for collaborative efforts to meet the event’s monumental scale.
Establishment of a Kumbh Mela Cell
Gedam announced that the process to establish a dedicated Kumbh Mela cell has already begun. This cell will oversee planning and logistics, ensuring the timely execution of projects. A final funding proposal will also be submitted after consultations with project consultants for Ram Kal Path.
Infrastructure and technology enhancements
To accommodate the influx of devotees, the district administration has initiated discussions with mobile network operators to install additional towers and enhance data capacity for uninterrupted internet services. Focus will also be placed on developing "Sadhugram" areas to provide adequate facilities for saints and mahants visiting during the event.
The Chief Minister has instructed the development of Odha, Nashik Road, and Deolali railway stations to support the event's transportation needs.
Key initiatives and proposals
Budget preparation: Proposals from various departments have been received. Long-term projects requiring over two years to complete will be prioritised. A consolidated budget will be prepared accordingly.
Logo competition: A competition will be organised to engage local talent in designing the official logo for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
E-toilets: Approximately 30,000 e-toilets are anticipated to meet the sanitation needs of millions of devotees. A review will determine whether to construct or rent these facilities.
Emergency response: Inspired by the Prayagraj fire brigade's three-minute response time, plans are being drafted to ensure efficient emergency services in areas like Tapovan and Trimbakeshwar.
