Mangaluru: This year, the Karnataka State Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) will introduce webcasting during II PU practical exams, to maintain transparency during the exams. The board had initially planned to randomise exam centres but later decided to implement this approach instead.
The initiative is to prevent malpractice and address allegations of awarding marks without conducting practical exams for candidates. II PU practical exams will be held from Jan 27 to Feb 15 across the state.
H Basavarajendra, chairperson of KSEAB, said that for the first time, webcasting will be introduced in PU practical exams. Last year, webcasting was introduced after the main exams, in the second and third exams.
The move has received mixed reactions, and the KSEAB decided to proceed with the decision, as it believes that this move will enhance transparency and improve quality of overall examination. This move is mainly to address allegations that colleges and exam centres allegedly award arbitrary marks without conducting practicals. KSEAB decided to oversee practical exam centres directly, through webcasting. Teams led by PU deputy directors will visit these centres and take immediate action against any malpractice detected during webcasting.
Over 2,500 exam centres have been set up for the practical exams. A district level centre has been established for webcasting supervision, with responsibility assigned to a team of lecturers at the district level. However, KSEAB has also submitted a request to use AI in webcasting to monitor students. In Dakshina Kannada alone, 17,556 students will appear for the practicals in 48 exam centres.
