Three arrested for fatal bludgeoning of autorickshaw driver in Pune
Pune: The Rural police on Wednesday arrested three men, including an autorickshaw driver from Pimpri Chinchwad, on the charge of bludgeoning a 58-year-old autorickshaw driver to death in Koregaon Bhima on Sunday, Jan 19, evening.
The victim, Rajendra Mungase of Vadhu Budruk, succumbed to injuries during treatment on Tuesday night.
A Shikrapur police team traced the suspects on Wednesday with the help of CCTV footage. "During questioning, the trio revealed that they bludgeoned Mungase to death following heated arguments over some petty issue," a police officer told TOI.
The police arrested Somesh Sarode (27), Dnyaneshwar Dukale (19), both of Chikhali, and Deepak Sathe (19) of Pimpri under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The officer said that on Sunday evening, Mungase was driving along the road in Koregaon Bhima when he had heated arguments with Mungase. "Later, the driver, along with his two accomplices, chased Mungase. They beat Mungase with hands and legs and bludgeoned him with stones," the officer said.
He said that after Mungase fainted, the trio drove away from there. "Mungase, who suffered severe head injuries in the attack, succumbed to the injuries during treatment," he said.
The officer said that after receiving the complaint from the victim's son, the police swung into action and checked the CCTV footage in the area. The police identified the autorickshaw and took the trio into custody from Kudalwadi. "Our investigations are ongoing," the officer said.
