New Delhi: Stating that AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was rattled and his fears were the chief motive behind the new promises being made by his party on a daily basis, PM Narendra Modi asked voters to ensure a big turnout on polling day to capitalise on AAP's vulnerability.
"He (Kejriwal) has never looked so shaken. That is the reason for his flurry of announcements," Modi said in his online interaction with BJP workers, motivating them to secure a majority of votes in every polling booth. The interaction, essentially a pep talk, saw Modi telling party workers to turn citizen reporters and record the poor condition of roads and lanes, water shortage and overflowing sewage on their mobile phones and distribute it among voters of their constituency.
The PM slammed Kejriwal for not tabling in the Delhi assembly the Comptroller and Auditor General's report on the "Sheeshmahal", in reference to the expenditure incurred on the renovation on the CM's official residence when Kejriwal was its occupant, and irregularities in implementation of the liquor policy. The AAP govt did not table the report, drawing criticism from the Delhi HC. "During their initial days, they (AAP) would ask their members to record everything on their mobiles. But they have stopped doing so because they are scared of their failure getting captured on mobiles and exposed. But now, BJP workers should record their misdeeds and flood voters with videographic evidence. Also, remind voters of unkept promises of the AAP govt," Modi said. He had used a similar interaction with party workers in Haryana to bring about a mood turnaround when the functionaries had given up on the state.
The PM drew a contrast with what he called BJP's proven track record in making good on promises. "We have implemented the Ladli Behna scheme we had promised in MP. Ditto for Ladki Bahin in Maharashtra. And in Odisha, we have launched Subhadra scheme for women even though it is not even one year since we took office. As against this, look at AAP's scorecard, Kejriwal promised a stipend for women, but nothing came of that. He promised Rs 1,100 to each woman in Punjab but not a single paisa has been distributed," he said. Modi also contrasted the polluted Yamuna with the success of the scheme to bring Narmada waters to Gujarat. He also referred to the Maha Kumbh and said crores of people had taken a dip in the "clean waters of Ganga".
The online conversation saw PM making a pitch for the crucial Purvanchalis as well as the youth and "guaranteeing" Rs 75,000-80,000 to every household under the PM Suryaghar Yojana, while savaging Kejriwal over "Sheesh Mahal". "Gandhiji said while in office, one should take care of public money as a trustee. You don't own the resources. But they, after making claims that they would never use public resources for themselves, splurged money to arrange all comforts for themselves. And while they wasted money as if it is water, they failed to provide safe drinking water to citizens of Delhi," Modi said.
He specifically highlighted the plight of Purvanchali voters, accusing AAP of attempting to marginalise them post-Covid, and said the party harboured hate towards people from the region. "We must not forget what crime these AAP-da people had committed. There are friends from UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand who have been serving here for many years. These people hatched a conspiracy to drive them out of Delhi by spreading lies. They were forced to catch a bus overnight. And you must remember all those pictures. What a terrible disaster, how much these people hate the people of Purvanchal," Modi said.
Modi engaged directly with local leaders like Sundar Choudhary from Shahdara, discussing public expectations, particularly around housing and affordable meals. He reaffirmed BJP's commitment to middle-class aspirations, mentioning improvements in education, health and infrastructure like the Metro and highways, all under Centre's initiatives.
