320kg of poppy seized from abandoned SUV in Dahod
Vadodara: In yet another seizure of poppy, the Dahod police confiscated 320 kg of the contraband from an abandoned SUV on the under-construction Delhi-Mumbai Expressway on Wednesday.
This is the third seizure of poppy pods in Dahod this week. The seizure was made near Chhyan village under the Chakaliya police station from a deserted Toyota Innova car. The car was found without any number plate, and the poppy pods were packed in 17 plastic bags, while some were also tied in a cloth.
The car was spotted by a police patrol. Its rear wheels were deflated, and two window glasses were broken. Upon checking, the police noticed that its engine and chassis number were removed. However, they found a PUC certificate with the number of the car and a service book in its boot. The service book mentioned the name of a prominent resort in Rajasthan as the owner.
The police spotted the bags in the car and began the procedure to seize it according to the protocol under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The poppy pods were weighed after removing the stems, leaves, and other waste. It came to light that 320 kg of pods were hidden in the car. This stock is valued at Rs 9.6 lakh.
An offence was registered by the police against unknown persons late on Tuesday evening.
