Chandigarh mayoral polls on Jan 30

Chandigarh: In a fresh notification, in pursuance of Punjab and Haryana high court order, Chandigarh deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav has fixed Jan 30 for the conduct of Chandigarh mayoral elections.
Nominated councillor Dr Ramneek Singh Bedi will be the presiding authority for the meeting to be held on Jan 30 for the election of the post of mayor.
The high court on Monday set aside the notification dated Jan 7 for the mayoral elections, which were scheduled for Jan 24. The HC quashed the January 24 notification on the grounds that the tenure of the present mayor, Kuldeep Kumar, is up to January 29. The HC passed these orders after hearing a plea filed by Kumar.
