Cameron Diaz has returned to the big screen after a 10-year break with Netflix’s comedy Back in Action starring alongside Jamie Foxx. The 52-year-old actress stepped away from the acting scene to focus on her personal life. During her hiatus, the Holiday actress got married to Benji Madden and welcomed two children – daughter Reddix, 5, and son Cardinal, 10 months. In a recent interview, Diaz opened up about how becoming a mother and building a family shaped her perspective on life and work.

“You’re a different person after you have children, after marriage, after building a life. Everything changes, your whole perspective, your whole world, your understanding of it," Diaz told E! News in a joint interview with Foxx.

She pointed out that, for her, becoming a mother meant rethinking her priorities. “For me, I never made a movie before with a family. So, all of the boxes change that need to be checked off. That’s the most important, and then everything else has to line up to support that," she said.

Diaz’s time away from acting gave her the chance to embrace life in a way she hadn’t before. Reflecting on her break, she said, “Spending half a decade blissfully at home with our kids was a dream. I didn’t feel the need to do anything else. My world felt complete."

But now, as she returns to the industry, Diaz finds herself reconnected with a fresh perspective on storytelling.

“When you live life outside of the bubble of Hollywood, you gain so much perspective. That’s been the most profound part of this experience—being able to bring that perspective into my work now," she added.

“As an actor, it’s completely different having taken 10 years and lived a life that I wasn’t living when I was an actor. There’s a lot more happening in my world that allows me a different perspective on life, period," the Charlie’s Angel alum continued.

It was Foxx’s persuasion that ultimately led Diaz to agree to join Back in Action. “I hadn’t considered anything other than this," she admitted.

“Benji and I talked about ‘maybe it would be cool to do something with the family,’ like switch it up a little bit," she continued.

Diaz added that the only reason she considered it was because she trusted in Foxx whom she praised for his talent and professionalism.

Directed by Seth Gordon, Back in Action is currently streaming on Netflix.
