Ranchi: Police recovered the body of an 18-year-old college student, who had gone missing on Jan 16, from Dhurwa dam in Ranchi on Tuesday morning. Police said that the girl had gone out of her home for college at around 10:30 am on Thursday but did not return in the evening. Her relatives lodged a missing person's report with the local police station on Jan 18.
DSP headquarters, Arvind Kumar, said, "Parents of the deceased has informed us that they had reprimanded her for not studying. The post-mortem report would ascertain whether she drowned or she was murdered and thrown into the dam."
A relative of the deceased said that nothing felt amiss when she left home for college.
By evening, the police received report of another girl jumping into the dam, located on the city outskirts. She is yet to be traced.
DSP Kumar said, "The national disaster response force (NDRF) has been pressed to trace the girl. NDRF would carry out the operation on Wednesday only after which we can confirm anything."
