In recent years, it has become increasingly common for actors to venture into business and investment. Abhishek Bachchan, known for his successful acting career, is one such actor who has embraced this trend. In a recent conversation, he shared his thoughts on investing in companies, particularly those supporting the Make in India initiative. He also spoke fondly of his niece, Navya Naveli Nanda, praising her for returning to India after studying abroad to make a difference in her home country.
In a conversation with CNBC-TV18, Abhishek Bachchan discussed his excitement about the Make In India initiative and the growing number of companies emerging from the country. He said, “With the family office, what is really exciting is the India story—companies coming out of India. The ‘Make in India’ initiative excites me. Gone are the days when we saw ourselves as inferior. Today, we are market leaders in whatever we do, and I love that confidence.”
Abhishek Bachchan also discussed how mindsets have evolved over the years, particularly when it comes to achieving success. In his youth, the common belief was that to succeed, one had to go abroad. However, he believes that times have changed, and many are now choosing to explore opportunities within India. Using his niece, Navya Naveli Nanda, as an example, he shared how she decided to return to India after completing her studies in New York. He recalled her telling him, “I want to move back to India and make a difference here. I love that, and I enjoy spending time with the younger generation. We can learn so much from them. It’s a passion to work with products that come out of India and eventually take them global.”
For the uninitiated, Navya Naveli Nanda attended Fordham University in New York, where she graduated with a degree in Digital Technology and UX Design in 2020. Now, she is pursuing her MBA at the prestigious Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad. Her decision to return to India and contribute to the country’s growth speaks to a shifting mindset in the younger generation.
Abhishek Bachchan is known for his thoughtful approach to business, preferring to let his work speak for itself rather than discussing his investments publicly. He shared, “I am very conservative. I don’t like to talk about it because I believe there is dignity in letting the work speak for itself. In business, I like to work with people who inspire me.”
He also revealed that he has stumbled upon several homegrown consumer brands that caught his attention. One such brand was Naagin Sauce, which he loved so much that he reached out to the founders, saying, “I stumbled upon Naagin Sauce and really liked it. I reached out to the boys behind the brand and said, ‘Hey, you’re Bandra boys—how do we take this ahead?’ It always starts with me being a consumer first.”
