FIR against Munirathna for casteist slur, slum demolition
Bengaluru: A 20-year-old daily-wage worker filed a police complaint against BJP MLA Munirathna Naidu and six of his associates, accusing them of hurling casteist abuses before demolishing about 60 makeshift sheds in Peenya.
The complainant, H Geetha, said the six associates arrived at Akkamahadevi slum around 11am Monday with an earthmover and demolished the sheds. "There was no prior intimation of the demolition. Along with the sheds, cash between Rs 20,000 and Rs 60,000, and 30 grams of gold kept inside the sheds were destroyed during the demolition," read Geetha's complaint to RMC Yard police station.
Geetha claimed Munirathna's aides hurled casteist abuses when she and others opposed the demolition. "Abusing our caste, they asked us to return to North Karnataka, our hometown. The demolition was carried out on Munirathna's directions," she said.
RMC Yard police registered an FIR under SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 324 (2) (Mischief may be committed by an act affecting property belonging to the person who commits the act, or to that person and others jointly), 74 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 351 (Criminal Intimidation)
This is the fifth FIR registered against Muniratna, who also faces charges of rape and bribery.
