The Telangana government has released the Gazette notification for the Telangana Bhu Bharati (Record of Rights in Land) Act, 2025. This move comes after the Governor’s assent on January 3.
The new Act replaces the Telangana Rights in Land and Pattadar Passbooks Act, 2020, introduced by the previous BRS government. The government aims to frame the rules relating to the new Act within two months. The government is reportedly taking all the necessary steps to ensure enforcement of the legislation at the earliest.
Salient features of the new act include, any public servant found tampering with the Record of Rights or passing fraudulent orders will face dismissal and criminal prosecution. A separate Record of Rights will be maintained for ‘Abadi’ and non-agricultural lands, containing prescribed details. Individuals affected by incorrect entries can apply for rectification within a prescribed period, and a structured appeals process involving the RDO and District Collectors ensures transparent dispute resolution.
Dedicated land tribunals will address legal issues, offering free legal aid to underprivileged individuals. Land transactions conducted through informal agreements (Sada Bainama) before 2014 will be formalised.
