Trump Is in Office, but Volatility Remains Lower

President Donald Trump’s first day in office has produced a flurry of headlines, but it hasn’t yet caused stock prices to fluctuate more than usual.

The CBOE Volatility Index, or VIX, also known as the fear gauge, was down slightly at 15.73 early Tuesday. That’s comfortably below the 20 level where it held for most of the past year.

There were two big spikes recently–one in August and one in mid-December. Both correlated to sharp increases in bond yields, which have since fallen back some.
