Madhubani: Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on Tuesday apprehended a smuggler and seized counterfeit currency on the India-Nepal border.
The arrested smuggler, Prabhat Yadav (36), had Rs 23,300 and Rs 53,000 fake Indian and Nepalese currencies, respectively.
The search was conducted under the direction of 48th Battalion commander, Govind Singh Bhandari. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by inspector Bhagwan Sahai Meena, conducted a raid near border post 271/01, approximately 2 km from the border near Jaynagar.
Prabhat is a resident of Laxmipur village in the Kaluahi police station area of Madhubani district. The SSB handed over the accused, along with the counterfeit currency, to the Jaynagar police.
Commander Bhandari said special drives are being conducted regularly along the border to curb illegal activities such as human trafficking, smuggling counterfeit currency and weapons.
