Haryana CM slams Kejriwal: ‘Opened liquor shops, spent public funds on lavish home’
New Delhi: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday criticised AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of "constructing his own lavish home at the expense of public funds". AAP slammed him, saying his party's sole agenda was to grab power.
Campaigning for BJP candidate Umang Bajaj in Rajendra Nagar constituency, Saini said, "Kejriwal spent Rs 15 crore on his house for clean water, but the people of Delhi are not getting clean drinking water. It is very unfortunate that Kejriwal, who promised so much to the poor, only opened liquor stores, engaged in corruption and spent money on facilities for himself. He has not made Delhi his home, but definitely made his home Paris."
Saini said in Haryana, all central schemes were being implemented, making people's lives comfortable. But, he added, that the Delhi govt had failed to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
"Kejriwal's entire cabinet was inside Tihar jail. People of Haryana have shown him out, and now the people of Delhi will do the same. A day after results are out on Feb 8, Kejriwal will be back in Tihar," Saini said during a public meeting.
The Haryana CM said while PM Narendra Modi had given thousands of houses to poor people, Kejriwal had only opened liquor shops in every corner of the city. Saini promised if BJP comes to power, it would ensure clean drinking water from the tap. "People vote for a person for five years. A chance is given to work and show results. Kejriwal has not been able to provide clean drinking water and clean the Yamuna," he said.
Hitting back, AAP said Delhi's people rejected BJP's "hateful rhetoric" and stood with an "honest govt". "These people speak only of destruction, division and violence… They conspire to demolish ‘jhuggis' and seize public lands, betraying the very people they claim to serve."
Last year, Kejriwal launched a project for 24x7 drinking water in Pandav Nagar area, which falls under Rajendra Nagar constituency. AAP's Durgesh Pathak is the incumbent MLA. The area is close to the unauthorised Kathputli Colony, which has narrow lanes lined with houses built haphazardly. Residents have often faced problems with drainage and lighting. "Before every election, the problems of an area are solved temporarily, and then the place returns to a poor state," said Yash,a resident. "During monsoon, the drain is choked and there is waterlogging. Recently, a light in a park was fixed, just because polls are close," he added.
