Noida: As a precursor to Uttar Pradesh day celebrations, set to be held from Jan 24 to 26, the district sports department is organising a "Sports Maha Kumbh" on Jan 22 at Malakpur sports stadium in Greater Noida. The event will feature competitions in seven sports categories.
According to sports officer Lakshyaraj Tyagi, the competition, open to under-18 boys and girls, will include athletics, judo, netball, boxing, archery, basketball, and badminton.
"The teams of GB Nagar will compete in the events under the under-18 category for boys and girls. The competitions are designed to encourage young athletes and help them gain exposure to higher levels of competition," said Tyagi.
He further informed that on-the-spot registrations would be available for participants and the aim of the event is to identify and nurture sports talent from urban and rural areas alike
Deputy sports officer Anita Nagar noted that on Jan 24, national and international players from the district will be honoured. "Acknowledging the achievements of these players not only motivates them but also inspires others to pursue their dreams in sports," she said.
The UP Divas celebration, scheduled from Jan 24 to 26 at Shilp Haat, will feature over 100 stalls showcasing the state's iconic crafts under the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme. Visitors can also indulge in traditional dishes from various districts at food stalls, offering a taste of the state's rich culinary heritage.
