New Delhi: Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus led the bankrupt Bangladesh has been facing a major economic crisis since Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power. Amid the economic downfall, Islamists supporting the interim government in Bangladesh have called for the adoption of a national security doctrine. According to the reports, this doctrine would grant the military the authority to counter the Indian Army. This development is tied to Bangladesh’s political landscape and is the result of recent events involving Islamists, the military, India, and Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to the reports, the Islamists have demanded an independent military leadership that India does not control. Editor of Bangladesh’s daily newspaper Amar Desh, Mahmudur Rahman has recently made this statement on a public platform. Rahman accused the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League of weakening the military leadership. Since Hasina was removed from power, Rahman has been vocal against the Awami League. He has also called for a ban on the Awami League’s student wing.
Saima Wazed, the daughter of Sheikh Hasina, has been nominated for a significant position in the WHO. Rahman seeks to have this nomination canceled. Additionally, he has called for steps such as renaming the Jamuna Bridge after Shaheed Abu Said, making public the agreements made with India since 2009, and renaming Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka to Shaheed Abrar Avenue.
