AQI remains ‘poor’ in Noida, Ghaziabad
Noida: The air quality witnessed a slight improvement in the city and neighbouring Ghaziabad on Monday. Noida recorded an AQI of 177, Ghaziabad was at 186, while Greater Noida's reading landed at 190— all in the ‘moderate' category.
Noida's Sector 1 recorded a ‘poor' AQI at 213, while sectors 116 and 125 were at 170 and 141—both ‘moderate'. Data from the air monitoring station in Sector 62 was not available.
Greater Noida's Knowledge Park III recorded a reading of 144, in the ‘moderate' category, and Knowledge Park V was at 227, in the ‘poor' category.Meanwhile, AQI of Ghaziabad's Vasundhara was recorded at 299 and Indirapuram at 220—both ‘poor'. Sanjay Nagar and Loni were at 170 and 147, in the ‘moderate' category.
The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) said the predominant surface wind came from the northwest direction with a wind speed of less than 12 kmph till Monday evening. It decreased thereafter, dropping to less than 6 kmph during the night. It said on Tuesday, the wind is likely to be from the northwest direction with a wind speed of less than 6 kmph during morning hours. The wind speed will gradually increase to around 10 to 12 kmph from the northwest in the afternoon.
On Monday, Noida's maximum and minimum temperatures were 23 and 12 degrees Celsius. The visibility ranged between 50 metres to 200 metres at 8.30 am.
On Sunday, the CAQM held a review meeting, during which the sub-committee decided to further study air quality and forecast for meteorological conditions in Delhi-NCR before invoking stringent measures under stage III of the extant schedule of GRAP.
