Two found dead during welfare check in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — UPDATE: Jacksonville PD responded to Charleston Place Apartments on Jan. 19 to conduct a welfare check. When officers arrived, they located two adult occupants deceased.

The names of the individuals are being withheld pending family notification. Jacksonville Police Department and NCIS are investigating.

Earlier Monday, Police Chief Jarad Phelps said they’re working on notifying the family.

“I know we’re working towards that. When the investigation is a loss of life it’s terrible. But we’re working very diligently to make sure that we take care of the family and we do a proper investigation,” said Phelps.

Law enforcement officers from the Jacksonville Police Department are on scene investigating an incident that took place at the Charleston Place Apartments in Jacksonville.

Law enforcement did not elaborate on what the incident is but said the investigation is ongoing.
