BTC chief pledges sports infra boost
Guwahati: The Bodoland sports policy is presently being formulated to provide a strategic framework for the advancement of sports in the Bodoland Territorial Region, said BTC chief Pramod Boro on Monday, while reaffirming the council's dedication to enhancing sports facilities in the region.
Boro, while inaugurating the third edition of the Bodoland Sports Meet at the Sports Authority of India centre in Kokrajhar, acknowledged the infrastructure challenges in the region's sports sector and reaffirmed the council's pledge to bolster sports facilities across BTR. Expressing gratitude to the Indian Army for providing accommodation for athletes, he also unveiled plans to construct 500-capacity hostels for sportspersons in Baksa and Kokrajhar at an investment of Rs 5 crore each. Additionally, he announced that work on establishing a sports academy in Udalguri shall soon commence to further cultivate budding talent.
He emphasised the fundamental role of sports in the comprehensive development of both individuals and the region. He accentuated the significance of discipline and perseverance in the lives of sportspersons and encouraged them to participate in state, national and international level events. He illuminated how sports, previously viewed primarily as a source of physical exercise and recreation, have now transformed into promising career prospects.
The three-day sporting extravaganza, which commenced on Monday, aims to celebrate the rich sporting heritage of the Bodoland Territorial Region and provide a platform for young athletes to showcase and enhance their abilities across multiple disciplines. Approximately 1,300 participants from the five districts of BTR are competing in this grand event, which features various sporting disciplines including athletics, archery, football, kabaddi, indigenous games, para sports and volleyball. The Bodoland Sports Meet 3.0 serves as a remarkable platform for our sportspersons to demonstrate their talents and prowess.
