Three police officers, including a woman sub-inspector from Kakkur station, sustained injuries after being allegedly attacked by a four-member gang at Palliyarkotta near Narikkuni in Kozhikode district on Sunday evening (January 19).

The alleged assault took place around 6.30 p.m., when the police officers, who were on patrol duty, tried to examine a vehicle used by the four who were reportedly found consuming alcohol in a public place. The police suspected that the accused were trying to smuggle illicit liquor.

Sub-inspector V. Jeeshma, assistant sub-inspector U.V. Dhinesh, and civil police officer K.K. Rajeesh were injured in the incident. They were admitted to the Thamarassery Taluk Hospital.

According to the police sources, a separate police team from Koduvally station took the four accused – Baburaj, 60, K.P. Prasanth, 42, Shanoop, 42, and P.C. Rajesh, 48, (all natives of Kuttikkattur and Velliparamba areas) – into custody on Sunday night and their arrest was recorded on the same day. They were remanded in judicial custody on Monday (January 20).
