Thiruvananthapuram: A day after a tourist bus carrying 49 people overturned, leaving one dead and several others injured near Irinchayam at Nedumangad, the motor vehicle department suspended the licence of the driver on Saturday. The permit of the vehicle was also revoked.
Officials said that the bus was equipped with lighting and audio equipment that exceeded the permissible limits.
Meanwhile, Nedumangad police registered a case against driver Aruldas, 32, of Ottasekharamangalam, under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 106 (1) for causing death by negligence and 281 for rash driving.
Eyewitnesses said the accident was due to rash and negligent driving, as the driver tried to overtake a private bus while negotiating a curve at high speed, causing the vehicle to lose control..
