Coimbatore: Three people were arrested on Friday for stalking a woman and harassing her at Kovaipudur in the city on Thursday night.
The arrested have been identified as C Kannan, 36, of Kovaipudur, J Ravi, 19, of Kulathupalayam, and P Babu, 23, from Karnataka.
Police said a 20-year-old woman, from Dharmapuri district, was residing with her husband and family in a rental house at Kovaipudur. On Thursday evening, she had gone to attend an orchestra event held as part of the Pongal celebrations, at a ground in the locality. Around 10.15pm, when she was walking back home after the event, three men followed her on a motorcycle and cornered her. They approached her to involve her in flesh trade and offered to pay her. The woman raised an alarm, and the three managed to flee from the spot.
However, a while later, the three went to the woman's residence and abused her verbally. When the woman's father questioned them, they shoved him, pushing him down and left.
Based on the woman's complaint, Kuniyamuthur police registered a case against under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women (TNPHW) Act. The three were subsequently arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
