Lucknow: Emphasizing the need to increase the production of green fodder in the state, Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath directed the officials of animal husbandry department on Saturday to organise seminars for farmers to encourage them to grow green fodder.
The CM instructed officials to purchase green fodder from farmers and supply it to cow shelters, which would also help in increasing the income of farmers.
"Officials should first assess the consumption of green fodder in every district after which farmers and FPOs should be asked to produce green fodder according to the demand. They should be offered fair rates, as that would increase their interest in production and enhance their income. District magistrates have been assigned the work of coordinating this exercise," he said.
"As green fodder is long-lasting, warehouses should be built where the fodder can be stored for 3-4 months. DMs have been asked to monitor this work as well," the CM said.
For the security of cattle, Yogi said that CCTVs should be installed in all cow shelters, while reflective collars should be used on cattle belonging to people whose villages were close to the roads. He also asked for adequate arrangements for protection against summer and winter conditions.
Reviewing arrangements at shelters for stray cattle, the CM spoke about the need for chief veterinary officers, sub-divisional magistrates, and block development officers to carry out regular reviews. He added that caretakers should be appointed at all shelters and their work should be monitored.
