RPF seizes liquor, ganja from trains

A team of Railway Protection Force (RPF), as part of its Operation ‘Satark’, on Saturday confiscated two unclaimed bags containing 31 bottles of liquor manufactured in Puducherry, from a general seating coach in the Karaikal-Ernakulam Express.

The contraband valued at ₹6,944 was handed over by the RPF team to the Prohibition Enforcement Wing of the State police.

In a similar operation, an RPF team conducted a surprise check at Patna Junction-Ernakulam Junction Express and confiscated an unclaimed polythene bag containing about 10 kg of ganja valued at ₹5 lakh. This was also handed over to the PEW police, Coimbatore City.

Man duped of ₹10.06 lakh in online scam, fraudster arrested

A retired deputy manager of a private company residing at Thaneerpandal in the city was cheated of ₹10.06 lakh by online fraudsters.

Yuvaraj (71), who had retired from a Chennai-based company, had responded to a WhatsApp message sent by a person who had identified herself as Aanya Smith and prevailed upon the former to invest the money in phases in a stock market plan of a company called Motilal Oswal in lieu of 10 to 20 % profit.

Yuvaraj lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime police after the company had stopped responding to his calls and messages.

The police arrested Madhappan (39) of Hosur in this connection, and found him to have indulged in such fraudulent online transactions totalling ₹1.9 crore from eight account holders in the last two years.

A case was registered under Section 318(4) of BNS and 66D Information Technology Amendment Act 2008.
