Seminar on small bio-gas plants held

Imphal, January 17 2025: A 1-day seminar cum orientation & awareness programme on small bio-gas plants, titled "Transforming Waste into Clean Energy" was held at the Sangai Hall of Hotel Imphal today.
The programme was organised by Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) under the sponsorship of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, under "Information and Public Awareness Programme".
It was graced by Dr Shailesh Kumar Chourasia, Commissioner (Power), Government of Manipur; and N Praveen Singh, Director, MANIREDA as presidium members.
The event began with a welcome & keynote address by Babita Thangjam, Senior Scientific Officer, MANIREDA.
Speaking on the occasion, N Praveen said biogas is becoming a valuable energy source because it's a renewable energy source that can help reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
He called for widespread adoption of bio-gas plants in Manpur to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve environmental quality.
"MNRE has set a target of establishing 5000 biogas plants in the State as part of its National Biogas Mission", said N Praveen while adding that the initiative aims to convert agricultural & other waste products into clean energy, significantly reduce dependence on traditional fuel sources and contribute to a cleaner environment.
N Praveen mentioned that bio-gas plants, designed with prefab structures, would be installed in 1-cubic meter and 2-cubic meter capacities across various locations in the State.
"A total of 150 bio-gas plants are expected to be installed in the year 2025", he added Furthermore, N Praveen said that 40% of the installation cost will be subsidized by the MNRE while the State Government will provide a 30% subsidy, making bio-gas plants more affordable for beneficiaries.
Dr Lepakshi Barbora, Principal Investigator, Biogas Development & Training Center (BDTC), ITT Guwahati also gave a presentation on bio-gas plants through online mode.
The event was attended by a large number of participants, including stakeholders in the energy sector, Government officials and beneficiaries of renewable energy initiatives.
