Call for thorough probe into Mamit arms recovery
Guwahati: The Delhi Meetei Co-Ordinating Committee (DMCC) has urged the NIA and Mizoram Police to "conduct a thorough and complete investigation" in the arms recovery case in Mizoram's Mamit district on Jan 15 to determine that the arms "were not intended for trade between the Kuki-Chin militants who were actively part of the Kuki military aggression against Meeteis in Manipur violence since May 3, 2023."
Mizoram Police, in an earlier statement, said that in a major operation, the Mizoram Police, in partnership with a sister intelligence agency, achieved a huge seizure of arms and ammunition on the outskirts of Saithah village within the jurisdiction of West Phaileng police station in Mamit district. They termed it "as one of the largest arms recoveries in Mizoram, delivering a stern warning to illegal operators in the region."
During the operation, six AK47 rifles with 10,050 cartridges and 13 magazines were recovered, and five persons were arrested, including a notable leader of the Myanmar-based insurgent group Chin National Front (CNF).
Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the confiscated arms and ammunition were intended for trade between the Chin National Front (CNF) and the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF-P), another insurgent group active in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh.
