Diljit Dosanjh's much-delayed, controversial film, Panjab '95 will finally release in cinemas. The star singer-performer-actor made this big announcement on Saturday through his social media. Directed by Honey Trehan, Panjab '95 chronicles the dark history of Punjab and its people who suffered the atrocities. Inspired by true events, the movie highlights major events that happened in Punjab from Operation Bluestar, Former PM Indira Gandhi's assassination, to the Chief Minister's assassination, the riots of 1984, and countless innocents who lost their lives in this phase.

Diljit shared the film's teaser, leaving netizens and his fans stunned. Panjab '95 is based on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra (played by Diljit), who exposed 25,000 unlawful killings, disappearances and secret cremations by Punjab Police. The movie was completed in 2023, but it was stuck in the censor. The Central Board of Film Certification in India had proposed 120 cuts in the film to the makers. There was no certainty over the exhibition of the film given its sensitive subject matter. However, following Diljit’s meteoric rise and global attention, the film finally sees the light of day internationally.

On January 11, Diljit dropped his photos from the movie. Diljit took to his Instagram and shared an array of pictures in which he can be seen in his character from the film. He wrote in the caption, “I Challenge the Darkness. Punjab 95." In the first image, Diljit Dosanjh can be seen sitting on the floor in a raw and rugged look, dressed in a simple kurta and turban. His bloodied and bruised face conveys a powerful sense of pain and resilience. The movie also stars Arjun Rampal in a key role.
