Gurgaon: Fearing the MCG's monetary sanctions, the number of registered bulk waste generators (BWGs) escalated from 450 on Dec 12 to 1,049. The MCG is levying a penalty of Rs 25,000 on unregistered BWGs and those contravening the prescribed regulations.
Balpreet Singh, the MCG additional commissioner, said, "Officers from the monitoring cell, established by the civic body, conduct daily visits across all four zones for inspection. This ensures that BWGs are registered on the online portal and comply with the rules."
Moreover, he stated that compliance with the SWM Rules, 2016, is mandatory for all major waste producers, known as BWGs, within the limits of the MCG. "Under these rules, BWGs are responsible for managing the waste generated on their premises. These rules mandate that they must segregate waste generated into wet, dry, and domestic hazardous categories and ensure separate disposal for each. They should produce compost or biogas from wet waste and dispose of dry and hazardous waste through relevant recyclers. BWGs."
He added that registration on the online portal is mandatory and 1,049 BWGs registrations have happened so far and the remaining must also register without fail.
Singh added that they can seek assistance from any agency for waste management, provided the agency ensures compliance with the SWM rules.
The corporation in Sept last year de-empanelled 14 private agencies it hired to assist the BWGs with their waste management after it found that these agencies were dumping inert garbage at the garbage vulnerable points instead of transporting it to the designated secondary collection points in the city.
