LMC camps to promote TB free drive, solar power plan
Lucknow: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation in collaboration with UPNEDA and the health department will raise awareness about the Pradhan Mantri TB-free campaign and the Surya Ghar free electricity scheme through citizen engagement and inter-departmental cooperation.
A seminar held on Friday at the LMC auditorium in Lalbagh focused on implementing these initiatives. Mayor Sushma Kharakwal and municipal commissioner Inderjit Singh stressed the importance of citizen participation and departmental collaboration.
Singh outlined plans to organise TB awareness camps and promote the Surya Ghar free electricity scheme in every ward with the help of local corporators to ensure broad outreach. "The camps, supported by corporators and LMC staff, will educate people about the Surya ghar scheme and tuberculosis. We aim to cover all 110 wards," said Singh.
Kharakwal emphasised the dual benefits of the Surya Ghar scheme—environmental protection and reduced electricity bills through solar energy. She also highlighted the urgency of eliminating tuberculosis to protect future generations.
UPNEDA secretary Pankaj Singh provided details about the Surya Ghar free electricity scheme, explaining that it offers subsidies for solar panel installation, allowing households to reduce energy costs and even earn by selling excess power. Applications can be submitted online at pmsuryaghar.gov.in or offline at post offices.
Dr NB Singh, chief medical officer, noted that tuberculosis affects millions in India each year, primarily due to delayed diagnosis and lack of awareness. Common symptoms include persistent cough, weight loss, fever and chest pain.
Experts from KGMU stressed the importance of early detection and consistent treatment to effectively combat tuberculosis. The seminar concluded with participants pledging their support for these initiatives, marking a significant step toward the city's sustainable development and public health improvement.
