The two-way, 2.2-km flyover starts at Rajaram Bridge Chowk and ends at the Fun Time Multiplex junction. Once it is ready, motorists will no longer have to halt at seven junctions on the stretch between these two locations.
Commuters, especially those who want to travel directly from Rajaram Bridge towards Wadgaon Budruk or Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass, will be able to cover the distance in less time without much hassle, said Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials.
According to citizens, the traffic problems on Sinhagad Road are a major concern at present. Commuters said they are facing hurdles not only because of the smaller roads but also due to the ongoing works.
"The diversions have not been planned properly. They are causing obstacles in traffic movement and leading to traffic jams," said Shantanu Gosavi, a regular user of the Sinhagad Road route.
"The long-pending works are not only causing traffic issues but also other problems. The gravel and dust from the project works are raising health concerns. The works should be completed at the earliest," asserted Neha Kshirsagar, a resident of Wadgaon.
The work on this flyover began in Oct 2021 at an outlay of Rs118 crore. A section of the flyover from Rajaram Bridge has been opened for traffic currently.
A senior official of PMC's projects department told TOI, "The administration sped up project works after the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha and state assembly polls, respectively, was lifted."
