Not Rishabh Pant or Virat Kohli, THIS 25-year-old Lucknow Super Giants star will lead Delhi team in Ranji Trophy

Both Kohli and Pant were members of the Indian team that faced a 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar series held in Australia.

The selection committee meeting of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) has concluded and the announcement that follows is anticipated to go pretty smoothly. Although the official squad has not yet been announced, trustworthy sources suggest that Ayush Badoni has been chosen to remain captain and that Rishabh Pant will not be leading the team. Virat Kohli's inclusion in the team is still up in the air. On January 23, Delhi and Saurashtra will play at Rajkot.

Pant, who has declared himself available for the forthcoming game, will be participating in a Ranji game for the first time since 2018, according to Cricbuzz. Despite having captained and been vice-captain of the Indian side in the past, Pant has decided to relinquish his position as Delhi's captain. He has stated that he believes Badoni should continue to be captain and promised to support him in whatever manner he can. With 19 points, Delhi is currently tied for second place in the Elite Group D Ranji table.

"He was offered the captaincy but declined, suggesting that Badoni should continue as skipper," a source familiar with the matter told this website. "He believed it wouldn't be right to step in as captain solely based on his experience as an international and an IPL franchise skipper. He felt that his entry as captain might disrupt the team's balance. Instead, he expressed confidence in the current captain and coach (Sarandeep Singh), to carry forward their vision envisioned at the start of the season," the report said.

With the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting in March, a role flip between Rishabh Pant and Ayush Badoni is anticipated. Badoni has been retained but will be a junior member of the Lucknow Super Giants, while Pant will likely take over as captain. It is noteworthy that the captain of the Lucknow team has not yet been confirmed.

According to speculations, Virat Kohli may not be in the ideal physical condition in other developments. Rohan Jaitley, the president of the DDCA, is reportedly considering contacting the veteran Indian batsman, who has been having trouble with his form in international cricket. The BCCI has recently emphasised how important it is for international players to play in domestic tournaments while they are not on international duty or recuperating from injury.

Furthermore, there is some doubt about KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja's involvement. Both players are expected to participate in the next round of Ranji games, though.
