Mohali to get new 5-acre grain market in Saneta village
Mohali: A new grain market is coming to Saneta village in Mohali. Punjab's minister of agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and dairy development, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, laid the foundation stone for this project.
The market will span five acres and is set to be constructed at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore, with completion expected in six months.
Addressing the locals after laying the foundation, Khudian said the state govt has provided relief to farmers from over 20 nearby villages.
Earlier, he said, the farmers in the area had to sell their produce by the roadside.
When MLA Kulwant Singh highlighted this issue, the minister said he promptly directed Punjab Mandi Board officials to eliminate all barriers for the construction of the market.
Cabinet minister Khudian said that a long-standing demand of the region has been fulfilled. He praised the gram panchayat of Saneta village for their generosity in providing land for the sub-yard at the collector rate in 2011.
Khudian detailed that the new market will feature three auction platforms, a large shed, 71 shops and booths, a water tank, and a drainage system.
He noted that the market previously recorded arrivals of 60,000 quintals of paddy and 33,000 quintals of wheat, and the new market's completion will further boost grain arrivals. The market will also significantly alleviate traffic issues in the urban area during the season.
Councillor Sarabjit Singh Samana, welcoming Khudian on behalf of MLA Kulwant Singh, said that establishing Saneta sub-yard was a major challenge for the region, which has now been resolved by the Bhagwant Mann government through this project.
He also requested the early opening of the newly constructed Saneta Hospital building, to which the agriculture minister assured a meeting with health and family welfare minister Dr Balbir Singh.
