Imphal, January 15 2025: The 1st Lamyanba Book Fair, a ten-day event organised by Lamyanba Publications, began at Lamyanba Shanglen Palace Compound, on Wednesday.
The fair, which was inaugurated by Moirang College former lecturer Khaidem Ibomcha, features a wide range of books including literature, science, children books as well as books on the history of Manipur, both old and new.
Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function, Khaidem Ibomcha, also a former member of the 3rd edition of Lamyanba published in 1969, informed that some the books at the fair include articles on issues related to societal changes apart from providing bookish knowledge.
He, however, noted that on-going violence affecting the overall economy might be an impediment to book enthusiasts from purchasing books of their choice.
In his address, Lamyanba Trustee member AC Netrajit noted that there is a limited trend among students to read books beyond the prescribed syllabus, while attributing the decline in reading habits to the advancement of technology.
He, nevertheless, encouraged the public, especially students to visit and experience the book fair which offers a valuable platform for people to access a variety of books, both old and new.
