Six arrested for 24-yr-old’s murder in Banki
Cuttack: Six persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder of a 24-year-old man in Banki area of Cuttack district. Six other accused are on the run.
The victim, Sumanta Sahoo from Gobindapur village, was fatally attacked while returning home from Makara Mela at Bada Bandiani Thakurani temple, Tigiria, on Wednesday evening. Police sources said a group of 12 people intercepted Sahoo at Chatari Pond Bridge, where a verbal altercation escalated into a violent assault.
"The attackers left the victim bleeding on the road after beating him with sticks," said Prateek Singh, superintendent of police, Cuttack Rural.Family members rushed Sahoo to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The arrested persons have been identified as Naresh Swain (32), Pranabandhu Swain (28), Rakesh Roul (27), Dinesh Rout (25), Rakesh Swain (26), and Susanta Kumar Rout (30), all residents of Gobindapur village.
"The post-mortem has been conducted, and the body has been handed over to the family," Singh added. "Special teams have been deployed to apprehend the remaining suspects, and we expect to make more arrests soon," he said.
