Vadodara: A deputy mamlatdar from Padra was caught in an allegedly inebriated condition after his car got trapped in a trench dug for civic work in the Jetalpur area on Tuesday night. After the accident, the man went to sleep in the car itself.
According to police, the man was identified as Naresh Vankar. He was going to his home in Padra when his car got trapped in a trench dug by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC).He may not have spotted the trench or may have lost control of the vehicle.
Bystanders called who rushed to the spot and found Vankar asleep in the driver's seat, which was reclined. After much effort, police managed to wake Vankar. He was taken to GMERS Gotri Hospital where a sample of his blood was taken. He was then brought to Akota police station, where a case was registered.
Videos of Vankar sleeping in the driver's seat with the backrest reclined and then being taken into custody by police went viral. In one such video, he is heard saying he is a magistrate.
