Burglars target shops, offices on Uttarayan holidays
Surat: Burglars took advantage of the Uttarayan holidays, targeting shops and offices in the Puna and Mahidharpura police station jurisdictions.
A Jan Suvidha Kendra consultant suffered losses of Rs 3.10 lakhs when his office in the Puna complex was burgled. The perpetrators also broke into a neighbouring doctor's clinic. In a separate incident in Mahidharpura, burglars struck two IT establishments within the same complex, stealing seven mobile phones and three laptops valued at Rs 1.56 lakhs.
Vivek Kheni, a Varachha resident who operates a Jan Suvidha Kendra near Sitanagar Chowkdi in Puna's Ajmal Palace, routinely picks up his wife from Udhna railway station, as she works in Vadodara.He stored Rs 2.50 lakh, received from a relative for overseas travel arrangements, along with his personal cash of Rs 15,000 and gold worth Rs 45,000 in his office drawer. He left work on January 13 evening and didn't return on Jan 14 due to the holiday.
On January 15, Alpeshbhai, who operates a laboratory next door, alerted Kheni about the break-in. Upon arrival, Kheni discovered his valuables were missing and noticed that Dr Jignesh's adjacent clinic had also been burgled.
In the Mahek Icon complex on Sumul Dairy Road, software developer Ashish Gabani's office was burgled after he closed on January 13 for holidays. When he visited the office around 10 am after the Uttarayan holiday, he discovered seven mobile phones worth Rs 76,000 were missing. Additionally, his partner Kamlesh Gorasiya, who has a second-floor office in the same building, reported the theft of three laptops valued at Rs 80,000.
The Mahidharpura police registered a case against unidentified individuals and commenced their investigation.
