Collector R. Alagumeena on Thursday inspected the glass bridge connecting Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Tiruvalluvar statue in Kanniyakumari district.
The glass bridge, which was inaugurated on December 30 by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, has become a major attraction for both tourists and locals.
With the opening of the bridge, Kanniyakumari has witnessed an increased number of tourists from various places, and the bridge offers them a clear view of the sea, enhancing their experience.
The number of tourists is expected to rise, especially during the holiday season, prompting the local authorities to improve transportation facilities. Poompuhar Boat Corporation has extended its ferry service hours from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday (January 16 and 17) and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on other days.
In order to ensure the safety of tourists, around 35 personnel from various departments, including Indian Coast Guard, police, revenue and tourism, were deployed at the site to assist tourists and monitor the operation.
During the inspection, the Collector emphasised the importance of maintaining safety standards and instructed all staffs concerned to ensure smooth and hassle-free experience of the new attraction to the visiting public.
