Sub Centre of Excellence for Research Network Support to come at the Government College for Women: Bindu

Higher Education Minister R. Bindu has said that a Sub Centre of Excellence for Research Network Support will be established at Government College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram.

This announcement was made during the inauguration of Cognitopia, a multidisciplinary fest, that got under way at the college on Thursday.

Dr. Bindu said the sub centre will coordinate research activities and secure cooperation from national and international institutions. She emphasised that this initiative is a recognition of the college’s contributions to public-benefiting research. She also highlighted the government’s efforts to bridge the gap between higher education and employment in Kerala.

She also launched a computerised aptitude test for school students, jointly developed by the Department of Psychology at the college and Additional Skill Acquisition Project (ASAP) Kerala.

Antony Raju, MLA, presided over the inaugural session. College principal J.S. Anila, Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment executive vice-president K.P. Sudheer, and ASAP Kerala chairperson and managing director Usha Titus were among those who spoke on the occasion.

Cognitopia is organised as part of the 125th anniversary celebrations of the college. The three-day festival features sessions by experts from cultural and educational fields, alongside various exhibitions. Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre Director S. Unnikrishnan, Professor Sabu Padmadhas of the University of Southampton were among those who spoke at various sessions.
