A woman Maoist , active in the restive Darbha area of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, surrendered in Telangana’s coal town of Kothagudem on Thursday (January 16).

Police identified the surrendered Maoist as Kalamu Pai, a 28-year-old Area Committee Member of the banned CPI (Maoist) of Kerlapal in Chhattisgarh.

Ms. Kalamu Pai, carrying a reward of ₹4 lakh on her head, surrendered before Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police B. Rohith Raju in Kothagudem.

She cited the spurt in incidents of exchange of fire between the Maoists and police, establishment of new police camps in the forested Bastar region and her ill-health as the main reasons for her decision to quit the banned outfit and join the mainstream, police said.

The surrendered Maoist belongs to Palya village in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district.
