Coimbatore: Two men were arrested on Tuesday for murdering a 33-year-old woman near Thudiyalur here on Monday.
The Thudiyalur police identified the arrested duo as Arichandran, 43, of FCI Nagar at Urumandampalayam in the city, and Prasanth, 30, of Pudukkottai district.
A police officer said the duo were held for hacking Kalaithai, of SM Nagar at NGGO Colony near Thudiyalur, to death. She was employed with a private firm that was owned by Arichandran. The firm was into manufacturing aluminium products.
"Kalaithai developed a friendship with Arichandran and borrowed Rs2 lakh from him a few months ago. She, however, failed to repay the amount. When Arichandran asked her to return the amount at the earliest, Kalaithai stopped reporting for work and attending his phone calls. Frustrated, Arichandran decided to kill her," the officer said.
Knowing that Kalaithai was alone at her house, Arichandran visited her at her place on Monday along with Prasanth. "When he asked her to repay the borrowed amount, a heated argument ensued. In a fit of rage, Arichandran and Prasanth attacked Kalaithai with a knife, inflicting 15 wounds to her neck, head, face and chest. While she succumbed to her injuries on the spot, the two fled the scene. The incident came to light on Tuesday, when Vignesh, a milkman, informed us," the officer said.
The Thudiyalur police sent the body to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem. They also registered a case and arrested Arichandran and Prasanth the same day. The duo were produced before a court, which remanded them in judicial custody. They were subsequently lodged in jail.
