Lucknow: In view of intense cold, basic education director Pratap Singh Baghel on Wednesday said that classes 1-8 in schools recognised and under the purview of UP Basic Education Council (UPBEC) will remain closed on Jan 16-17.
However, confusion prevailed among the education fraternity. While a few private schools sent messages to parents saying they will continue with ‘online classes' till Jan 17, and the class links will be shared to them by morning, some private schools decided to conduct academic activities due to "lack of clarity" in the order.
A senior govt education officer said, "Technically, this order applies to all schools, including private institutions. This is because all schools in the state seek recognition from UP Basic Education Council till class 8 after which they are affiliated to different boards like CBSE, ICSE."
"Based on this order, respective DMs can issue order for closure of all schools, including private institutions," he added. The district magistrate had issued no order in this connection till reports last came in.
