Delay hits construction of Jayadeva Hospital in Hubballi
Hubballi: Construction of the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in Hubballi has been delayed, now expected to be completed by March 2026 instead of Dec 2025. The project faced setbacks due to elections and prolonged rains.
According to sources, initiated in April 2023, the project saw completion only up to the basement, ground, and first, second, and third floors. However, the fourth-floor construction is ongoing. With a 30-month deadline looming, heavy rainfall and shortages in labour hampered progress. The state-run Jayadeva Hospital, which has branches in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Kalaburagi, is one of the most reputed govt healthcare institutions in the country, with people from across the North Karnataka region seeking treatment for cardiological disorders.
MLA Arvind Bellad inspected the ongoing Jayadeva Hospital recently and instructed the officials to complete the work quickly.
Nagaraj Nadakarni, a social worker from Hubballi, said that patients across the North Karnataka region are dependent on KMC-RI, Hubballi, and other private hospitals and visit Bengaluru for major heart care treatment. As the number of patients is increasing at the govt-owned hospital, Jayadeva Hospital in Hubballi will help the NK region. The hospital will help poor patients and they can get treatment at low cost. He urged that the authorities should complete the work soon and start operations.
Arunkumar H, assistant engineer, health and family welfare engineering wing, told TOI that the construction of the hospital is ongoing. The contractor was instructed to complete the work in a timely manner. By March 2026, we will inaugurate the hospital. The state govt announced the Jayadeva Institute at the cost of Rs 250 crore in 2022. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in March 2023.
He said the construction of the third floor was completed. The fourth floor's slab work is ongoing. The hospital will have a lower ground floor, ground floor, and four additional floors. Many facilities for patients will be provided, such as emergency treatment, pharmacy, lab, X-ray, ECG room, etc. MLA Arvind Bellad inspected the work and directed it to be completed soon, Arunkumar added.
