Chennai: An eight-year-old boy, his father and grandfather were travelling on a two-wheeler with their puppy on Wednesday morning when tragedy struck near Ambattur. The puppy jumped out of the hands of the grandfather, Raghupathy, 63, and started running on the road.
The father, Marimuthu, 30, speeded up to catch up with the puppy, lost control and crashed the two-wheeler into the road median. Marimuthu died on the spot, Raghupathy died on way to hospital. Kuralarasan, 8, suffered minor injuries and is recovering in hospital. The puppy is still missing.
Police said the three had visited relatives in Thirumangalam with the pupply and were on their way back home when the accident happened. The boy was seated in front of his father, Marimuthu. And Raghupathy, who is Marimuthu's father-in-law, was riding pillion holding the puppy.
The puppy jumped out of Raghupathy's hands near a traffic signal at Ambattur Industrial Estate.
A similar tragedy had happened in February 2023 when 28-year-old Deepan died after losing control of his scooter and crashing into a median while trying to save his newly adopted puppy from falling off the vehicle.
Deepan had kept the puppy, which he was taking home for his two children, on the floorboards in front of him. When he was riding on the Red Hills road near Kallikuppam, he noticed the puppy was slipping off the vehicle. Deepan bent down and scooped up the puppy but lost control of his two-wheeler, which rammed into the road median killing him on the spot.
