Ranchi: Two sisters, who had gone missing from the state capital on Jan 11, have been traced in Karnataka, Ranchi police said on Wednesday. They will be reunited with their families soon, they added.
Notably, the girls, aged 18 and 20 years, went missing after they visited Mangalam Tower, a shopping complex near Kantatoli, for correction of their Aadhaar cards. The father of the girls lodged an FIR, stating that they had been kidnapped. He said at about 1:30 pm, he received a call from his daughters during which they said an auto-rickshaw driver was taking them to an unknown destination. Their mobile phones were switched off after the incident.
Confirming the development, South Chhotanagpur zone Inspector General Akhilesh Jha said, "After getting information, I had formed a special investigation team (SIT) comprising several senior officers to track the girls. Police worked hard to recover them. Further details will be shared once the girls are back."
The father of the girls heaved a sigh of relief upon receiving the news from police. "Our joy will be doubled once our girls are home," he said, adding that since the past four days all family members were very anxious. "All praises to Ranchi police for their efforts. Ever since we reported the matter, they tried their best to trace them," he said.
He further added that on Wednesday morning City SP Raj Kumar Mehta called him and told that the girls have been tracked and are safe. He also made me talk to a police officer in Karnataka who said that the girls were with the local police. He said that as far as he has learnt, there are some problems in getting the flight tickets delaying their return to the city.
It may be stated here that the SIT comprised city SP along with Kotwali Dy SP Prakash Soy, city Dy SP Kumar Venketeshwar Raman and officers-in-charge of several police stations including Hindpidhi, Lalpur, Lower Bazaar, Sikidri, Ormanjhi, BIT Mesra and Silli.
