27-year-old killed in crash that closed I-71

(WJW) — The man killed in a deadly crash that blocked a stretch of Interstate 71 in Cleveland for more than three hours on Wednesday morning has been identified.

The crash was reported at about 7:30 a.m. just beyond Fulton Road and West 25th Street.

Cameras in the area showed traffic backed up and a line of motorists slowly exiting the interstate at the West 25th Street exit. At times, the Ohio Department of Transportation reported a more than 20-minute delay.

According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, Nicholas Rohn Sandman, 27, of Bay Village, was killed in the crash.

The interstate reopened at about 10:40 a.m.

There’s been no word on what caused the accident.
