Kanpur: A 17-year-old girl attempted to end her life after her ‘boyfriend' and his relative posted her inappropriate photographs on social media. They were blackmailing her for a long time and had even took over Rs 1,50,000 from her threatening to post her photos and videos. The incident came to light when the girl attempted suicide on Tuesday.
A youth had captured inappropriate videos and photographs of his girlfriend. Later, along with his relative, he started blackmailing the girl and demanded Rs 150,000. Their demands continued and when the girl expressed her inability to pay more, they posted her photographs on social media platforms.
The girl attempted suicide but was saved by timely action of her family. She narrated her ordeal after which her mother approached the police and lodged a complaint against the accused. In her complaint, the girl's mother disclosed that her daughter had befriended a tenant in their locality, four years ago. After the girl stopped contact with him, tenant contacted her through a female relative and demanded Rs 10,000 while threatening her.
The girl ended paying around Rs 1,50,000 on multiple occasions. The accused continued his demands, threatening her to share her photos after which the girl tried to end her life.
Babupurwa police station incharge Arun Kumar Dwivedi said that the victim's mother has filed a complaint against five individuals, including the primary accused and her female relatives. "The matter is currently under investigation," Dwivedi added.
