Top NFL Draft Prospect Arrested on Homicide Charge
Kyren Lacy, the former Louisiana State University football player expected to be an in-demand pick at the NFL draft, has been arrested on a negligent homicide charge after a deadly car crash last month.
Lacy was arrested and taken into custody on Jan. 12, two days after a warrant for his arrest was first issued. He was charged with negligent homicide as well as reckless operation of a vehicle and a felony hit-and-run. Police say he left the scene of the crime following the crash last month.
According to a police statement, Lacy was allegedly behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger when he "recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a designated no-passing zone." A driver of a Kia Cadenza in the northbound lane swerved to avoid hitting Lacy's Dodge and ended up colliding head-on with a Kia Sorrento. The driver of the car, identified as 78-year-old Herman Hall of the town of Thibodaux, was transported to a hospital where he died of his injuries.

Authorities say Lacy allegedly drove around the crash scene and fled "without stopping to render aid, call emergency services, or report his involvement in the crash." Lacy's agent Rocky Arceneaux shared in a statement that the wide receiver was "fully cooperating with the authorities."
"We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation," he said. "This matter is being taken very seriously, and we are committed to resolving it responsibly."
Lacy declared for the 2025 NFL draft on Dec. 19, two days after the crash. He posted $151,000 bond and was released from jail following his arrest.
