Jaipur: A 31-year-old Army soldier died on Tuesday from injuries suffered in a mishap during a military exercise at Mahajan Field Firing Range in Bikaner.
The incident occurred on Dec 15 when he fired a cannon, which backfired, causing the soldier to hit against a towing vehicle behind him, a police officer said. The impact resulted in severe rib injuries, and he died during treatment on Tuesday.
According to Mahajan SHO Kashyap Singh, the exercise was being conducted at East Camp of the firing range. The deceased soldier, identified as Havildar Chandra Prakash Patel, hailed from Narayanpur in Jamua Bazaar Kachhua, Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. He belonged to the Army's 199 Medium Artillery Regiment.
During the mishap, the cannon reportedly slipped, trapping Chandra Prakash between the cannon and the towing vehicle. He sustained critical injuries and was immediately rushed to Suratgarh Army Hospital.
Havildar Chandra Prakash Patel served in the Army for 13 years. His sudden demise has left his colleagues and family in deep shock.
