Jaipur: A 45-year-old woman, Geeta, from Mahua in Dausa district, recovered successfully from a simultaneous infection of scrub typhus, dengue, chikungunya, and adenovirus at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in the final week of November. A similar case with identical infections resulted in a fatality at SMS Hospital six weeks earlier.
Following the rainy season, SMS Hospital physicians are treating numerous patients with multiple illnesses. People remain vulnerable to vector-borne and zoonotic diseases, which typically spread during and after the monsoon period.
After two weeks of intensive care treatment in the ICU, Geeta was discharged. "Her condition was critical, but she recovered from the brain lesions and meningitis due to scrub typhus," said Dr CL Nawal, Senior Professor (Medicine), SMS Hospital.
Research conducted by Nawal at SMS Hospital in 2022 identified 150 cases of patients affected by multiple infections during a single season. This discovery alerted health authorities to consider necessary measures.
