Jaipur: In response to demands from civil servants residing in Gandhi Nagar locality, the Jaipur Development Authority has initiated a project to build an underpass beneath Gandhi Marg, connecting Gandhi Circle on JLN Marg to Gandhi Nagar Tiraha on Tonk Road. The proposal came directly from chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma during a recent UDH department revied meeting.
"During the meeting held on Nov 29, we were asked to carry out a feasibility study for this project. We will soon float a tender for the same," said a senior JDA official.
A section of JDA engineers said that following the implementation of the Signal-free Project at the Laxmi Mandir Tiraha, it has become challenging for the bureaucrats residing in Gandhi Nagar area to travel from their official residences and back. Most of these civil servants forced to take the Nehru Garden Marg to reach Bajaj Nagar or the Gandhi Marg. However, there are regular traffic congestions on both roads.
An official said, taking the Bajaj Nagar side means one has to take a U-turn through the underpass of the Tonk Puliya which remains congested every time the Tonk Phatak is closed. Even on the other side, it becomes difficult to take a right or left turn from the Gandhi Marg towards Gandhi Circle or Tonk Road. Again, after taking a left turn on Gandhi Marg, vehicles get stalled at the Gandhi Nagar Tiraha.
"Earlier, the bureaucrats would reach the Tonk Road and take a right turn towards Sahakar Marg or a U-turn towards Rambagh from the Tiraha. But now that has been closed," an official added.
